Sky Sports Cup Final: Rangers 2 Hibernian 0

Rangers beat seven-time League Cup winners Hibernian at Tynecastle on 11 December in the first Scottish women’s domestic game shown live on Sky Sports, and took the trophy for the first time. Player of the match Lizzie Arnot supplied the opening goal, a stunning long-range strike from the left that beat Benni Haland in the Hibs goal, and was disarming about it afterwards: she just went for it, and was grateful it went in. Substitute Kirsty Howat finished at the far post on 76 minutes to settle it. Cheered on by a contingent of the club’s Union Bears, it was a first success in the competition and, given the club’s form and ambition, the magazine suggests it is unlikely to be the last. Malky Thomson was content with performance and result.
