You Gotta Roll With It (Alanna Kennedy Interview)

A long, unusually reflective interview with the Australia defender after a first season at Manchester City that she describes as a rollercoaster. Kennedy is candid about arriving from Tottenham, being away from family, falling short of her own expectations and becoming her own worst critic, and about how the squad turned a wildly uncharacteristic start into a top-three finish, a Conti Cup and two domestic finals. She watched much of EURO 2022 from the stands, calling herself a full-on fangirl, and says the Wembley crowd made her look around and register how far the game had come with Australia’s home World Cup a year away. There is also Mary Fowler’s two-footed power, a shortlisting for the club’s Joker of the Year that Keira Walsh won, Neighbours, a skateboard, and the Pizza Hut shift she lost by calling in sick.
