She’s One Of Their Own (Simone Magill interview)

Four pages with Everton’s longest-serving player, published in the spring before Northern Ireland’s first major tournament. Simone Magill arrived on Merseyside as a teenager and has since had FA Cup finals, relegation, promotion and full professionalism at the same club; she talks about why it became home, and about the season that got away from her personally, first through a long rehabilitation from an Achilles problem and then through personal issues that took her out of the game altogether. She is generous about the physios who refused to rush her, and about the senior players who set Everton’s standards when she was the newcomer. On Northern Ireland she traces the shift from a side that needed her to take its one chance to one where everybody scores, and credits Kenny and Dean Shiels for building play through her.
