Born Kicking: Abby Allan and Poppy Harris-Jones
She Kicks, issue 69, October 2021 pp.66–67
Two young readers take the grassroots slot. Abby Allan is thirteen, from South Shields, plays for Boldon Girls Under-14s – the club that produced a young Jill Scott and has just become the magazine’s first Official Club Partner – and supports Liverpool. She plays centre-midfield to see the whole game, wears a lucky headband, and would like a scholarship in America, then the WSL and England. Poppy Harris-Jones is seven, from Wallasey, plays for Poulton Victoria Under-8 Girls and supports Everton. Her favourite player is Messi and her favourite female player Everton’s Poppy Pattinson; she names Marcus Rashford among her heroes for what he has done to help children, and is working on a rainbow flick.
