Little Kicks: Star Six with Toni Duggan (Amber Faulkner asks)
She Kicks, issue 65, February 2021 pp.66–68
Fourteen-year-old Amber Faulkner, who started out in a local boys’ team and found focus in football through a difficult period of bullying at school, puts six questions to the forward she has modelled her own game on. Toni Duggan is candid that moving to Spain – first to Barcelona, now to Atletico Madrid – was scary and surreal as well as exciting, a big decision that meant living far from home, and that it has given her memories and some Spanish. Asked how she stayed focused as a teenager, she says the difficult age was sixteen or seventeen, when the distractions arrived, and that good people around her carried her through; the sacrifices, including missed birthday parties, were worth it. Her current hobby, she reports, is painting by numbers.
