A Decade Of Conti Cup Finals
She Kicks, issue 59, March 2020 pp.8–10
With Arsenal and Chelsea about to contest the 2020 final at Nottingham Forest, She Kicks runs back through eight editions of the Continental Cup, introduced in 2011 alongside the new FA WSL. Only Arsenal and Manchester City have ever won it; Birmingham City have lost three finals. The panels record each result with scorers, venue and attendance: Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Birmingham at Burton in 2011, Kim Little’s winner off her weaker foot in 2012, Lincoln’s last game before the franchise moved to Notts County in 2013, Laura Bassett’s contentious red card in 2014, and Manchester City’s arrival as a force in 2015. Nick Cushing’s wife went into labour during the 2016 final and he waited until the final whistle. There was no 2017 final; 2019 went to penalties.
