Safe Hands: Sophie Harris (Brighton & Hove Albion)

The magazine’s goalkeepers’ slot goes to Brighton’s Sophie Harris, who was born into the position: her father and brother are both keepers and her father coached her for years. She names distribution and a loud mouth as her best attributes, and a tipped-over save for England Under-15s against Germany as her favourite, admitting it made her head a bit big. The candid answer is about game time – more minutes in the WSL is the single thing that would make her better, because sitting on the bench does not improve anyone. She is direct about outfield players too: not running is not the same as doing nothing. Her advice, having gone from Arsenal down to part-time second-tier football, is that a chance is never gone.
