The She Kicks Locker Room: Kit Check with Leeta Rutherford
She Kicks, issue 49, September 2018 p.59
Lewes’s midfielder answers the kit questions and gives away a secret in the process, which the magazine cheerfully points out. For three seasons she has been quietly collecting her brother’s shirts at the end of each promotion-winning campaign, to frame as a twenty-first birthday present alongside a scrapbook she has been keeping since he was seven. She owns about six of her own from Portsmouth, Brighton and Millwall. Her first kit was a Barcelona one she screamed a holiday shop down for, and her parents were softies. She would kiss Messi’s boot on the grounds that he is a genius. Her socks and shin pads went unwashed for an entire season, and a team mate once licked them.
