Road to France: Eugenie with a Wish (Eugenie Le Sommer interview)
She Kicks, issue 49, September 2018 pp.50–51
France host a World Cup in less than a year and their number nine is clear-eyed about what it could do and what it demands. It is a huge opportunity for the French game, played in beautiful stadiums with high visibility – but the enthusiasm depends on a deep run, and pressure comes with being favourites at home after poor recent results. Asked what France are missing, she says she genuinely does not know: perhaps a little more fortune in decisive games and more ruthlessness in front of goal. On the domestic game she is precise: every Division 1 match will be televised for the first time this season, but only four of twelve clubs are professional. She would like to play abroad one day, and wonders about England.
