Megan Campbell signed for Manchester City in February 2016 and then lost most of two years to ankle ligament damage, a torn quad and a more serious ankle injury that cost her eight months. She is candid that it was lonely: she had not been around long enough for team mates to know who she was. Her answer came at Wembley, where her left foot delivered assists for Lucy Bronze and Carli Lloyd in the FA Cup final, and she says the deliveries come off when she is confident rather than because she practises them separately. She is relaxed about the long throw everybody mentions – it is abnormally long and it has got her where she is. On Ireland she sees the right steps being taken, with a long way still to go.
