#WEURO2017 Action and Reaction: Group Stage Matchday 1
She Kicks, issue 43, September 2017 pp.8–9
The tournament opens with the hosts holding their nerve against Norway in a sold-out Utrecht, Shanice van de Sanden heading the only goal and the Dutch King and Queen joining the party. Germany and Sweden, the Rio finalists, cancel each other out in Breda. Then England produce a record Euros victory, beating Scotland 6-0 in what She Kicks calls the Taylor Show, Jodie Taylor taking a hat-trick and admitting afterwards that she was not aware nobody had managed one at a major tournament before, and that she had lost count of the score. Lucy Bronze is pointed: the result was expected and nobody celebrated as if they had reached the moon. Anna Signeul, whose depleted Scotland side had just made their finals debut, talks about learning and rising again.
