Keep Kicking (Editor’s Letter)

She Kicks, issue 42, July 2017 p.8

Jen O’Neill sets up the Euros issue with England’s twenty-three named a full three months early and arriving, as far as anyone can tell, unscathed – a decision she reads as astute, and one that makes Mark Sampson’s talk of going for gold sound less like fantasy than intent. Scotland’s first major tournament comes with gutting injury losses to Kim Little, Jennifer Beattie and Lizzie Arnot, and O’Neill is unusually candid about the consequences of the squad’s stand against the Scottish FA: the media blackout worked, but it made this magazine harder to assemble and thinned its content, a price she considers well worth paying. She bids a fond farewell to Anna Signeul, plugs the newly relaunched website, and signs off from Holland or home.
