Beard Breaking Boston’s Blues (Matt Beard interview)
She Kicks, issue 40, April 2017 pp.50–52
Matt Beard, a back-to-back FA WSL winner with Liverpool, reflects on a first year turning round the Boston Breakers. Looking back at England he calls the big-club spending crazy and praises the NWSL’s salary cap for keeping the league competitive: with Sunderland going part-time and unable to compete with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, he predicts a league of three and the rest fighting it out in a mini-league, noting that the only real prize money is in the Champions League and that Liverpool won two titles under him without receiving any. He credits the FA with guts for the winter switch. He praises Natasha Dowie and hopes Mark Sampson considers her again.
