International Action: England’s Final Euro 2017 Qualifiers and the France Friendly

England finished their Euro 2017 qualifying campaign with two wins to top the group and enter the November draw as top seeds. Danielle Carter scored her second international hat-trick in her second international appearance, both against Estonia and almost a year apart, in a five-nil win at Meadow Lane. Five days later Nikita Parris and Karen Carney scored in a two-nil win in Belgium, prompting Mark Sampson to tell his players not to underestimate it and to point out that two campaigns had brought only two goals conceded in total. A tight goalless friendly against France at the Keepmoat extended a forty-two-year run without beating them, Toni Duggan’s late strike ruled out for handball.
