Around the Counties: Hampshire FA – FutsalFriday Kicks Off for Females

Hampshire FA established its first adult female futsal league last season as a Women’s County League, with many players having never tried futsal before and teams scheduled to play once a month to fit around busy lives. After five rounds the title came down to a showdown between Academica Ladies and Southampton Saints, with Academica needing a win and Saints only a draw. Academica broke a long deadlock and looked to be holding on until, with a minute remaining, an unbelievable strike from the Saints goalkeeper was smashed into the top corner to secure the point and the title. Sixty female players experienced futsal across the season, officiated by a fully qualified female futsal referee.
