FAWPL Charity Trophy 2016: Players Are All Stars in Charity Match

The FA Women’s Premier League Charity Trophy brought an Ex-England All-Stars side to Leamington to play champions Brighton, raising money for Breast Cancer Care in a five-two defeat. Clare Taylor, at 51 the oldest on the pitch and a World Cup 1995 veteran who also played cricket for England, was the only Ex to last ninety minutes and was named player of the match. Rachel Unitt, 102 caps and unofficially retired after two knee operations, learned shortly before the game that she and Rachel Brown-Finnis were to enter the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame. Marieanne Spacey had just been awarded the MBE, and Kirsty Pealling played forty minutes eighteen months after a kidney transplant.
