International Action: Scotland 1-1 Spain

Scotland draw one-all with Spain at Falkirk on 8 March, Virginia Torrecilla’s very late equaliser cancelling out Arsenal defender Emma Mitchell’s opener and preserving Jorge Vilda’s unbeaten record as Spain head coach. The report notes the echo of Vero Boquete’s heartbreaking leveller in the Euro 2013 play-off. Head coach Anna Signeul is nonetheless upbeat, saying Scotland improved in the second half and began to take the game to Spain, singling out Kim Little as brilliant and describing the standard as the one her side is capable of. She accepts the result was probably fair given Spain’s own chances, but regrets losing a late goal from a set-piece, and stresses that Spain fielded their strongest team.
