The She Kicks Locker Room: The Before & After with Beth Mead

She Kicks, issue 32, January 2016 p.62

Sunderland’s Beth Mead, WSL 1 Players’ Player of the Year, takes the magazine through her matchday. She always has scrambled egg on toast made by her father, and says it is never the same on away trips. She has no pre-match rituals and never has, believing you make your own luck. International football feels more intense in the changing room, but everyone prepares how they see fit and she simply does her own thing. She visualises situations, walking herself through scoring goals, without thinking about it too much. Her lucky charms are her family, who attend most matches. After a poor performance she analyses it and asks her parents, who tell her the truth. Tori Williams, she says, is the biggest joker at Sunderland.
