Celebrating a Landmark Year (FA Women’s Football Awards report)
She Kicks, issue 32, January 2016 pp.8–9
On a blustery night in north west London, Wembley Stadium’s arch lit purple, the 2015 FA Women’s Football Awards celebrated the achievements of players, coaches and administrators across the English game. Despite the posh frocks and fine dining the atmosphere was playful and relatively relaxed: Charlotte Lade showed off freestyle tricks, the FA’s Chair of the Women’s Committee Sue Hough MBE opened proceedings, and television presenter Jacqui Oatley steered the ceremony through international cap presentations, awards and occasional onstage chats. The Lionesses received their World Cup caps and the England Deaf Futsal squad and staff collected theirs for winning silver at the 2014 Euros. Beth Mead, who took three awards, calls it an amazing feeling and singles out the one voted by her peers.
