Spotlight On Durham University WAFC
She Kicks, issue 27, April 2015 p.42
Durham University WAFC’s first team are crowned 2015 BUCS National Champions after beating the University of Birmingham 2-1 at Loughborough, while the seconds finished runners-up in the Northern Conference Cup and a newly formed thirds came third in their league. Lily Crompton says being an academic university only makes them prouder to compete and dominate, and describes an incredibly diverse club of around fifty players across three teams, a quarter of them international, which has enriched the squad’s experience of cultural diversity. Pride in playing for Durham, she argues, is one of the biggest factors behind the success, though next year will depend on the new intake and coaching staff. A set of invented squad awards follows, from lateness and loudest to Durham’s strongest woman.
