SWPL Title Race & Scottish Cup Final
She Kicks, issue 85, July 2024 p.45
Celtic won their first-ever Scottish Women’s Premier League title in dramatic fashion, edging out Rangers on goal difference after Amy Gallacher’s stoppage-time winner sealed a 1-0 victory over Hibernian at Celtic Park. It capped a first major trophy for 30-year-old head coach Elena Sadiku, appointed only in January following Fran Alonso’s departure for Houston Dash. Rangers had their own celebrations, however, completing a domestic cup double under Jo Potter by beating first-time finalists Hearts 2-0 in the Women’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden, with Rachel McLauchlan’s long-range opener and a late Lizzie Arnot strike settling the contest. It was a landmark campaign for both Glasgow clubs, with Rangers also securing Champions League qualification for the season ahead.
