The Climb Back
She Kicks, issue 88, February 2025 pp.24–26
Everton defender Kenzie Weir speaks to Graham Falk about her long road back from an ACL injury sustained on loan at Glasgow City, roughly nine months on from the setback that ended what she calls the happiest season of her career. The 21-year-old, born during her father David Weir’s playing spell as Everton captain, reflects on rebuilding both physically and mentally, the value of loan spells at Lewes and Glasgow City in shaping her as a player, and her determination to add her name to Brian Sørensen’s defensive options at Goodison Park. She also looks ahead to representing Scotland, having been capped at underage level and hoping to push for senior recognition once fit again, discussing the changing landscape at both club and country following the departure of national team boss Pedro Martínez Losa. A grounded, honest account of an injury comeback still very much in progress.
