Back to the Front (2011 She Kicks digital-edition cover throwback)

A one-page nostalgia feature reproducing the cover of a June 2011 She Kicks digital special edition previewing that summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany, fronted by Kelly Smith and Alex Scott with then-England manager Hope Powell’s tournament preview inside. Presented explicitly as part of the magazine’s farewell to the She Kicks name ahead of its rebrand to Her Goal, the accompanying text promises that ‘as we say goodbye to the name, we’ll keep the heart and soul of SK (and On the Ball and Fair Game) kickin’ on’, with further throwback front covers pledged for future issues. A small but historically pointed piece, using the magazine’s own back catalogue to mark the moment of transition.
