A name-that-Lioness quiz marking England’s World Cup qualifier in Iceland on 18 April, the 500th England women’s international, for which Nike produced a bespoke limited-edition warm-up top inspired by the original Women’s FA logo. Six players from those first 500 matches are described rather than named: a midfielder of 72 caps and 17 goals in the 1980s and 1990s who later managed the team, the scorer of an extra-time winner in the EURO 2009 semi-final, a regular penalty-taker closing on 100 caps who is handy with a tattoo needle, a left-footed wizard with 46 goals in 117 games, the team’s first recognised Black player, and a EURO winner who announced herself against Mexico.
