Seger & Sweden Set for France

Anders Lundqvist interviews Sweden captain Caroline Seger after her side secured automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup with a 1-0 win away to Denmark in Viborg, Sofia Jakobsson’s goal sealing it in their first campaign under new coach Peter Gerhardsson. The FC Rosengard midfielder says it was good to play well when it was most needed after a year of ups and downs, with a shock 1-0 defeat by Ukraine in Lviv having applied the pressure and a draw needed in the final match to avoid a play-off. Seger is realistic about the task facing the 2003 runners-up, noting a round-of-sixteen exit in 2015 and a Euro 2017 quarter-final defeat, and warns that a World Cup brings higher expectations. A Quick Kicks sidebar records her bronze medal and FIFA All-Star selection in 2011.
