FA Women’s Premier League ‘HerStory’: FAWPL club placings archive 1991-2013
She Kicks, issue SK21, June 2014 p.44
A two-page archive of the FA Women’s Premier League, compiled with thanks to Wilf Frith and Colin Aldis, listing every club to have competed alongside its finishing position in each season from 1991-92 to 2012-13, with former names noted in brackets. An accompanying history records that the WFA Premier League began in 1991-92 with a National Division and regionalised Northern and Southern first divisions of eight teams each, Doncaster Belles taking the inaugural title with Bronte and Arsenal promoted. The top tier expanded to ten teams in the second season, the League came under FA control from 1994-95, and a dozen teams per division became the norm from 1999-2000 once four Combination Leagues were formed. Ninety clubs have competed, and the competition continues after member clubs resisted plans to abolish the title.
