Kicking Off — Game Changing or Game Over?
She Kicks, issue SK18, December 2013 p.48
An opinion page giving space to the Save Our Women’s Premier League campaign. It argues the FA has scored own goals across its 150 years, none more so than the 1921 ban on women playing on league pitches, and is now decimating the top tier of women’s winter football in favour of the five-year Game Changer plan that critics call Game Over. It describes Kelly Simmons delivering what it calls a fait accompli at a December 2012 consultation: merge with the Combination leagues or the WPL ceases to exist. Jack Lewis of the campaign group argues the FA should instead retain and invest in the WPL, and has developed a counter-proposal called Every Player Counts, warning that around 1,072 talented players will fall off the FA’s radar.
