Player Interview: Emma Mitchell — Mitchell at the Arsenal; Weir’s here too
She Kicks, issue SK16, September 2013 pp.22–23
Olivia Blair meets the Scotland international who has settled quickly at Arsenal, signed alongside compatriot Caroline Weir with Kim Little to show her the ropes. Emma Mitchell first made headlines scoring four on her debut as a winger for Buckhaven High School, outshining the boys and earning a Daily Record story, then travelled an hour from Fife to St Johnstone Girls alongside Lisa Evans before scoring 38 goals in 35 games for Glasgow City. She left for SGS Essen but made only eleven appearances before Shelley Kerr, whom she had played under in Scotland’s youth set-up, called. She rates Anna Signeul among the most positive people she has met, and still finds the Spain play-off defeat hard to discuss. A sidebar introduces 18-year-old Weir, from Hibs, where her father Lindsay is chairman.
