Player Interview: Natasha Dowie — Liverpool’s loved one

Tony Leighton interviews the Liverpool striker whose ten goals in twelve appearances have taken the Reds top of the WSL, and whose delight at that form is tempered by missing out on England’s Euro squad. Natasha Dowie says full-time training was the big factor in leaving Everton, sharpening her finishing and her heading, four or five of her goals coming with her head. A dozen close-season signings gelled without any organised bonding, the overseas players from America, Sweden, Iceland and Germany bringing a professional, winning attitude. She calls the league unpredictable, citing a 4-0 win over Arsenal followed by defeat to Chelsea. Told of her omission by Brent Hills, she says as the country’s top scorer she does not know what more she could have done, and targets the World Cup qualifiers.
