We Kick: Yeovil Town Ladies
She Kicks, issue SK06, February 2012 p.43
The grassroots club slot features Yeovil Town Ladies, formed in 1990 by Tony Baverstock as Yetminster Ladies, renamed Sherborne Ladies and becoming Yeovil Town Ladies in 1999. The squad draws players from as far as Devon, Bristol and Bournemouth, and sits top of the South West Combination with promotion to the Premier League as the short-term aim. Nicknames include Dodge for goalkeeper Rachel Simkin and Gobby for the quiet but fiercely tackling midfielder Laura Wensley. Captain Rachael Edwards is praised as a motivator, though not as a dancer, and joint managers Sarah Lawler and Nigel Williams work with assistant Chris White. The club’s proudest fact is that eleven players across its teams are qualified referees. Matchday volunteers Jude Williams and Lesley Trowbridge, and secretary Ali King, are thanked as unsung heroes.
