
The USA Women’s Team avenged their earlier defeat in Brazil this week with a 1-0 victory in front of a crowd of 55,000, who witnessed eight red cards issued to the hosts’ players and staff.
Brazil’s Isa Haas had a first-half header ruled out by VAR for offside, and the match was decided by an own goal in the 63rd minute from the unfortunate Isabella, whose deflection of Sophia Wilson’s strike beat goalkeeper Lorena.
Brazil head coach Arthur Elias was sent off along with three of his staff for foul and abusive language, followed by another dismissal close to the end of normal time.
In added time, Bia Zaneratto and Tarciane were sent off for hitting out at opponents, while Kerolin and Ludmila were dismissed after the final whistle for confronting the referee.
Canada put ten-player Costa Rica to the sword with six goals after María Paula Coto Gonzalez was sent off in the 53rd minute.
Evelyne Viens and Janine Sonis had already given Canada a two-goal lead, and Sonis doubled her tally from the resulting penalty. She completed her hat-trick with another spot-kick, while Jordyn Huitema and Marie-Yasmine Alidou d’Anjou added late goals.
Zambia won the Four Nations Tournament Final 3-0 over Zimbabwe, with Prisca Chilufya contributing a four-minute brace.
The Third Place Playoff saw Kenya’s Eglay Mukhwana score three of their six goals against Lesotho.
New Zealand and Morocco played out a goalless draw in Spain.
Jordan edged Palestine with a goal from the penalty spot but missed another attempt from 12 yards just six minutes later.
