Germany won the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship for a ninth time with a 1-0 victory over France in Belfast.
Méhisane Zidi twice fired wide for France, while Germany’s Victoria Säring saw her effort blocked by the leg of goalkeeper Clélia Ducreux.
Approachig th half-hour mark, Clara Choisy was also denied by Ducreux, but Marie Kleemann followed up to score what would prove to be the only goal.
France were closest to equalising before the break when Mirja Kropp parried shots from Mayra Bento and Rachael Adedini, with Léa Motyka unable to take advantage of the rebound from the second save.
Johanna Hebben, Germany captain, told uefa.com: “It’s what we’ve dreamed of for so long, and now it’s come true. It’s an unforgettable moment that will stay in our hearts and memories forever. There’s a huge amount of trust, no matter if you’re sitting on the bench, standing on the pitch or sitting in the stands. That’s what makes it so special, because everyone knew that we were going to pull this off and would become European champions.”
