Liverpool Women defeated Charlton 1-0 after extra time in the Adobe WFA Cup Quarter-Finals, with a crowd of 2,164 watching at The Valley.

Liverpool were dominant but goalless in the first half, coming closest when Mia Enderby’s header was saved by Sophie Whitehouse and Denise O’Sullivan scooped a close-range effort over the crossbar.

Charlton had a chance when the ball fell for Amalie Thestrup, but her flick didn’t trouble goalkeeper Jennifer Falk.

A backheel by Liverpool’s Beata Olsson ended up in the Addicks’ net during the latter stages of normal time, but she was ruled offside.

In extra time, Martha Thomas also netted for the visitors, but she had handled the ball, causing her effort to be disallowed.

Alejandra Bernabé shot inches wide of the Charlton upright, Elisha N’Dow cleared a Jenna Clark header off the line for the home side.

With six minutes of the added half-hour left, Zara Shaw broke the deadlock for Liverpool in a goalmouth scramble during which the frame of the goal was struck twice.
