Leaders Fall as Royal Wootton Bassett Town Clinch Important Victory

Regional League Round-Up: AFC Portchester, Royal Wootton Bassett Town, and the University of Nottingham all defeated the top sides in their respective divisions.

EASTERN – Dunstable Super-Sub at the Double

Premier – Stevenage’s Sarah Wiltshire scored two of their three goals at Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers as they moved 12 points clear at the top. Atletico London beat St Albans City 3-0 to climb to second place, while Royston Town were held 1-1 at home by Harpenden Town. Watford Ladies Development edged Enfield Town 3-2, Wroxham won 3-1 at Hutton, and play Dussindale on Wednesday at The Nest.

1 North – Dunstable Town defeated Biggleswade United 3-2, helped by a double from substitute Monet-Grace Wille. There were 2-1 wins for Stevenage Development at Thetford Town and Real Bedford Reserves away to Colney Heath, while Hitchin Belles had a walkover against Mulbarton Wanderers.

1 South – Southend United drew 1-1 with mid-table Wormley Rovers to move off the bottom at the expense of Stanway Pegasus.

EAST MIDLANDS – University of Nottingham Take Down Top Side

Premier – Lauren Crellin scored both goals of the game for Gainsborough Trinity against SJR Worksop, Rotherham United also won 2-0 against Stamford, and Mansfield Town took the points 2-1 at Wellingborough Town.

1 Central – University of Nottingham replaced Long Eaton United at the top after beating them 2-1 away, with Nottingham Trent University in second following a 4-2 win over Asfordby Amateurs. Sherwood’s Rejoice Amieghemen scored two of their three goals at West Bridgford. Melbourne Dynamo face Asfordby this Wednesday.

1 North – Champions Grimsby Town made it 14 straight wins with all 7 goals at Cleethorpes Town. Dronfield Town thrashed Lincoln United Development 6-1, with Kristine Humble scoring four times, while Arnold Eagles earned a 3-1 win at Chesterfield Community Trust.

1 South – Title-chasing New Bradwell St Peter jumped two places to third with a 3-2 victory over Leicester City LFC, aided by a Cara Brooker brace. Brackley Town won the basement battle with River City 5-1 to get off the bottom.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Dartford Close in on Top Two

Premier – Dartford cut the gap to the top two with a 4-0 defeat of Ebbsfleet United, Ashford Town drew 2-2 with Barking, Aylesford won 2-0 at Newhaven, and Sutton United did likewise at Sport London E Benfica. Saltdean United play Newhaven at Hill Park on Tuesday.

1 North – AFC Greenwich Borough beat Ashford United 4-1 away to move up to fifth in the table.

1 South – Saltdean United Development versus Frimley Green was postponed as the latter have withdrawn from the league.

League Trophy Quarter-Final – Dorking Wanderers had a walkover against Richmond & Kew and now visit Hammersmith in the semi-finals.

NORTH EAST – Leeds Modernians Return to Pole Position

Premier – Alnwick Town beat Spennymoor Town 4-1, helped by a Sophie Greener hat-trick, to leapfrog them into third place. Ponteland United scored four against Sunderland West End, while Wallsend BC moved up two spots to eighth after a 2-0 win over Ossett United, whose Emily Burgin was shown a red card.

1 North – Birtley Town were 6-3 winners at Hartlepool United, while i2i International Soccer Academy beat Gateshead Rutherford 3-0 in the battle of second and third, helped by Mia Corder’s two goals. Stockton Town’s 4-0 win over Berwick Rangers featured a Tiana Hudson first-half treble, and Washington’s Amy Coatesworth scored twice in a 3-0 defeat of Redcar Town, while Park View won 2-0 against Wallsend BC Reserves.

1 South – Leeds Modernians hit Ilkley Town for six to replace Handsworth at the top of the table. Sheffield Wednesday came out on top 6-4 against Rossington Main despite a hat-trick for the visitors’ Lauren Breen, as substitute Courtney Kaye scored twice.

NORTH WEST – Fylde Four Points From Securing Title

Premier – AFC Fylde took a step closer to the title with a rampant 9-2 result at Darwen. Bolton Wanderers’ Ella Tweedle notched a 27-minute treble in a 4-0 victory at Poulton Vics, while FC United of Manchester edged Tranmere Rovers by the only goal.

1 North – Bolton Wanderers Reserves suffered just a second defeat of the league campaign, losing 2-1 at home to Accrington Stanley, whose Melissa Adamson scored in the 90th minute to lift them to third place.

SOUTHERN – Portchester Win Against League Leaders

Premier – AFC Portchester are fourth after Charmaine True scored the only goal in their away win against league leaders Wycombe Wanderers. Chelsie Hay netted seven times as Winchester City Flyers overcame Woodley United 12-1. Oxford City held Southampton Women to a 2-2 draw.

1 North – Denham United recorded their 14th straight win with a 6-1 victory over Ascot United Reserves, moving 12 points clear at the top. Abingdon United Development beat Larkspur Rovers 3-0, with April England on target twice, while Farnborough scored both goals in their game away to Slough Town.

1 South –AFC Stoneham’s 4-2 beating of Bemerton Heath Harlequins included Mia Flood’s brace off the bench. AFC Varsity beat Bursledon 2-1 with a Gurinder Rayat double, while Wimborne Town versus Andover New Street finished goalless.

Chairman’s Cup – Bournemouth Sports Reserves pipped Havant & Waterlooville 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 deadlock to reach the semi-finals. Sholing went through to the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win at Kidlington courtesy of sub Sophie Lee, while Badshot Lea progressed past Tilehurst Panthers 2-1 with the decider by Holly Montgomery.

Shield Services Group SOUTH WEST – Wootton Bassett Beat Leaders

1 North – Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s Lauren Bulley and Laura Jefferies scored in a 2-0 win over top side Corsham Town, moving up two places to third, just three points off the leaders with two games still in hand.

WEST MIDLANDS – Solihull Moors Make Semi-Finals

Premier – Natasha Baptiste scored all four goals as Lye Town beat Port Vale to go eight points clear of Redditch Borough, though having played two more games. Hednesford Town’s 2-0 win at Leek Town lifted them two spots to third.

1 North – Walsall saw off Newcastle Town with Molly Rose Cook’s 12-minute brace, moving within eight points of leaders Lichfield City with two games in hand. Telford Town drew 2-2 at home to Rugby Town.

1 South – Droitwich Spa’s Charlotte Criddle netted a late double in a 3-2 victory at Halesowen Town, stretching their lead over Knowle to six points with four more matches played. Leamington scored all three goals at Crusaders to climb two spots to third, while Long Itchington’s Sarah Smith bagged a brace in a 3-1 win at Bromsgrove Sporting, moving them up two places to eighth.

League Cup – Solihull Moors edged out Alvechurch 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the quarter-final. Coventry Sphinx cruised past Burton Albion 4-1 in their third-round tie.
