Scotland U-23 Women fell to a 4–0 defeat against the Netherlands in front of a crowd of 1,042 — the highest attendance for a women’s match in Inverness.
The Dutch took an early lead in the friendly international through Liz Rijsbergen, who would score her second following Lynne Groenewegen’s doubling of the advantage after the hour mark.
An own goal by Addie Handley made it 4–0 but Scotland almost grabbed a consolation in injury time when Bayley Hutchison beat several defenders, only for goalkeeper Regina van Eijk to ultimately deny her.
Scotland WU23s Head Coach Michael McArdle told scottishfa.co.uk: “We’re delighted with the opportunity to play the Netherlands first and foremost. We know these opportunities are providing a tough opponent, and that’s exactly what we’ve designed the programme for – to play the top nations in the world.
“I’m delighted for the girls, and a lot of them individually as well, with some of the performances that will allow them to take that next step forward.
“Results-wise, you want better results, but certainly there were some individual performances out there that are quite exciting.”
