South Korea were 3-0 winners in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Group A game with Iran.

South Korea had just the one goal to show from an utterly dominant first half, and that came when Iran were down to 10 players temporarily following a serious injury.

Plenty of last-ditch defending by Iran kept the game goalless until the 37th minute, when, with Afsaneh Chatrenoor having been stretchered off, South Korea took advantage of the extra player as Cho Yu-ri squeezed home a rebound off the post.

Fatemeh Pasandideh forced a first save from Kim Min-jung as Iran started the second half more adventurously, but Lee Eun-young came off the bench to immediately win a penalty, which Kim Hye-ri just managed to put past goalkeeper Maryam Yektaei.

Sara Didar should have halved the deficit but her header was at the keeper, before Ko Yoo-jin sealed victory with a free header from Kim Hye-ri’s set-piece.

Fixtures for Tuesday 3 March:

Group B – North Korea v Uzbekistan (2am), China v Bangladesh (8am)
